International research writing competition: By Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago (From his memory “Climbing The Ladder of Success”) Series (9) As part of a test of my journalistic writing skill, I participated in an open international research competition organized by Al-Azhar University in 1987 and funded by Al-Faisal Bank and Baitul Zakat Al-Kuwaiti. The contest was open to all foreign students, including masters level and PhD students. The topic of the subject was about the history of every participant's country, including its geographical location and the system of government followed in each county. It was also stipulated that the essay should focus on the arrival of Islam in that country as well as the influence of the four different schools of Islamic thought. The organizers also laid down the guidelines to be followed by the hundreds of participants from various nationalities, with a six-month deadline for the submission entry. |
