Malaysia sees Saudi Arabia as strategic ally

By GHAZANFAR ALI KHAN | ARAB NEWS

Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have set out a new vision of relationship in Islamic finance, money market and trade. Al-Rajhi Bank is currently discussing plans to tie-up with a Malaysian entity to develop sukuk, while Khazana Malaysia, the Malaysian government's investment arm, has invested 10 percent in Jadwa Investment and Maybank, Malaysia's largest bank.

Final exam at Al Azhar University was organized once in a year during our time.  As far as results are concerned, 28-30 percent students used to pass in the exam every year including Egyptians at the mass communication department, which is still affiliated with the faculty of Arabic literature.

Studying in Egypt is also a completely different experience from that in Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. In the Kingdom’s case, they provide annual air ticket to the overseas student’s home country, while Egypt provides only one-way ticket after finishing the college degree.

Therefore, the only hope of returning home is to complete the course. In my case, I had at least seven years to finish my college since I started my second-year high school there.

According to Alexander’s report, based on data released by “Growth with Equity in Mindanao”, a non-governmental organization working for accelerated economic growth in Mindanao and ensuring that the benefits of growth are widely distributed among its people, many development activities are happening in Mindanao. Yet, only the insurgency problem  gets highlighted by the media, underlining its biased coverage of the realities on the ground in our province.

Instead of reporting on Mindanao with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Muslims as a people with their own hopes and aspirations, the mass media, irrespective of its political or religious allegiance, incites those on the other side of the fence to defend or attack.
